The Role of Bone Marrow Aspiration in Diagnosis of Hypersplenism and other Diseases in Kassala Area Eastern Sudan, October 2016-October 2017

Introduction: Bone marrow aspiration (BMA) is an important tool in diagnosis of many haematological and non-haematological diseases. BMA usually done together with complete blood cell count (CBC) peripheral picture. needed for hypersplinsm. alone sufficient megaloblastic anaemia, microcytic acute leukaemia, chronic myeloid lymphocytic leukaemia immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). The objective this study was to determine the indication bone Aspiration Kassala state eastern Sudan. Identify hyperslenism other diseases area. Methodology: All cases referred from different hospitals health centres state. Seventy-one conducted at Department Pathology Faculty Medicine, University October 2016 2017. Blood picture all patients subjected aspiration. Clinical information, physical examination, results investigations recorded specially designed form. Data entered on SPSS version 15 statistically analyse. Results: In 71 underwent BMA, 46 (64.8%) them splenomegaly. Twenty (44%) splenomegaly due bilharzia, 18 (39%) malaria, two malignancy (4%), (4%) Visceral Leishmaniosis unrevealed causes. Out 34 (73.9%) showed features hypersplenism. Non-splenomegaly cases, 8(32%), 3(12%), 2(8%), iron deficiency, haemolytic, aplastic, anaemia respectively. 4 diagnosed as Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Two leukaemia. Conclusion: very hypersplenism, endemic area disorders.
